COMPETE 25 Mentoring
COMPETE’s early-career mentoring is an important element of the COMPETE program, helping students build the kind of “professional capital” critical to starting and building a career in tech.
Mentoring Resources
As a COMPETE mentor, you will:
Meet (virtually) with your student for 1-2 hours per month from early February through early June.
Review your student’s resume
Conduct some mock interviewing to help your student build and refine their interview skills
Offer insights into what the professional work environment is like - and how to succeed in it
Mentoring FAQs
-
STEMatch asks for “light” mentoring, ~2 hours per month with the student, preferably split into two sessions (or more). Set the days/times that are convenient for you.
We ask mentors to work with students through May, but many continue longer based on mentor and student choice.
-
Yes - that is correct. Students are paired with mentors prior to the internship interview process, which maximizes the amount of support the students receive.

Check out the STEMatch Mentoring Topics resource for specific guidance on ways to approach your mentoring conversations.
